Why are hospitals congested with flu patients?

This is too simplistic. It's all about inaccessible doctors, doctors on vacation, surge in patient care when education could have helped a patient realize that their virus won't be helped by antibiotics.

Primary care team I saw yesterday had 50-70 pts crowding the large waiting room at 5pm
I disagree with Picard. Primary care is swamped too. It's resources that are missing. Hospital beds are closed at holiday time because it is an effort to control costs.
What's really to blame for ER congestion?
Worse still, many senior administrators are MIA at this time of year, ... hospitals; a large part of the problem is a lack of home care andlong-term care facilities. ... and there may even be a need to establish temporary medical facilities.
