Volunteers are knitting up a storm!

Some people ask what I do as a volunteer. I visit, advocate, talk to them, sit with them, listen, give suggestions. We seldom get together, but when we do we share our ideas, and build a bond in giving back.

One of my heroes is Una. She has a message for us. Please listen.

Some people knit blankets for clients.
This is a message from my supervisor, Rebecca, bless her heart!

At the last volunteer meeting in Perth, Hospice Volunteer Una showed 8 of us how to knit a lap blanket.  We are currently out of lap blankets and I must say that delivering lap blankets to clients has been a very rewarding experience.  People’s faces light up when they receive them.  One blanket was the perfect solution for a pressure sore.  It rolled up nicely under an elbow.  Another bright blanket lit up a dark room resulting in a glowing smile on the recipient’s face.  Another recipient was very touched and full of gratitude that someone had given her a gift.  These are just a few examples.
