Adult Bereavement Walking Group and 7-Week Grief Recovery Group

While this applies only to Lanark County, in southeast Ontario, it should be said that these types of groups provide much support to those who face grief.

Adult Bereavement Walking Group

This spring Community Home Support–Lanark County is introducing two additional Bereavement programs.  The first is a return of last summer’s Adult Walking Group that offers grievers an opportunity to walk and chat to others who have experienced a recent loss.  This year we are moving the walk to an evening time slot to make it available to people who are either working or otherwise unable to attend during the day.  The group will meet on the first  Thursday of every month, starting Thursday, June 6th, and walk evenings.

Those interested in either the Walking or the Grief Recovery Groups should contact
Community Home Support-Lanark County  - supported by the South East LHIN, the United Way of Lanark County and community donations.

 7-Week Grief Recovery Group

In addition to the return of the Walking Group, Community Home Support – Lanark County is also piloting a new adult group.  This is a 7-week Grief Recovery Group designed to help grievers to move beyond their pain and toward a richer and more rewarding life.  It is open to those who have experienced a loss due to death, but also to those who have experienced a variety of other losses including divorce, retirement, relocation, or pet loss.

The basis of the Grief Recovery Method is that while grief is a normal response to loss, most of the information passed on within our society about dealing with grief is not helpful.  The reason for this is that grief is the emotional response to loss, but most of the information we have learned about dealing with loss is intellectual.
The Grief Recovery Method focuses on emotional information related to relationships.  It provides a series of correct action choices that help people move beyond the pain caused by loss to recovery by discovering and completing all of the undelivered communications that accrue in the relationships we have.   This group runs on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30PM, starting on May 21st and ending on July 2nd.  The group will meet in Carleton Place.  It will be facilitated by Certified Grief Recovery Specialist Barbara Carroll.
