Heart of Hastings Hospice, Madoc, Ontario

We drove to Prince Edward County on August 21st, with a lovely stop in Madoc. It was with great pleasure that I dropped off one of my books for the new Heart of Hastings Hospice in Madoc, Ontario. They have a robust website, with photos of the recent opening, Aug. 18th.

Amazing women around me!
A wonderful group of women have corralled local donors, ensured three years of sustainability, met all the inspection requirements, and worked tirelessly to buy and renovate this beautiful home. They will have their first client by September, in time for the AGM on September 24th.

I so laud these women. No one wants to talk about death and dying, but we all have to face it. As a regular hospice volunteer, I know the difference we make to the dignity of the dying, as well as for their family members.
From their website:

There are numerous ways in which Hospice can help individuals and
families in need.  Services range from social, spiritual, physical and
emotional support and can include:
- companionship
A playhouse in the backyard
- listening, talking, reading
- helping ful ll wishes
- bereavement & grief support
- relationship building
- respite care
- personal care
- errands
- light meal preparation
- limited funding for travel
  & assistive devices

With these women behind me, my story would not have been so tragic. I would have trusted that there are many people, with ways to ensure someone has a good death, whether old, or young.
Bright rooms
Amazing list of donors
I felt amongst a circle of friends in the building.
Donated furniture, beautiful decor, sitting rooms, caregiver's bedroom, a meeting room and an office in the bright basement.
